Dear Esteemed Members,
On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, celebrated across India on 5 September each year—the birth anniversary of the esteemed philosopher, educationist, and former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan—I extend my heartfelt greetings and sincere gratitude to all members of the teaching community, both past and present.
This day is more than just a ceremonial occasion; it is a tribute to the noble profession that influences not only individuals but entire societies. Teachers are the unsung heroes who nurture curiosity, develop character, and guide many lives towards purpose and fulfilment. As members of the Senior Citizens Association, many of us have served as educators in various capacities—whether in classrooms, institutions, or through informal mentoring. To each of you, I extend sincere thanks and congratulations for being a beacon of wisdom and upholding the values that truly matter.
It is said that “Everyone can be a teacher.” And it is indeed true. Whether we are parents, friends, community leaders or professionals, each one of us has opportunities to teach through words and more importantly, by example. The most lasting lessons often do not come from textbooks but from lived experiences — small acts of honesty, kindness, and resilience.
Teachers today must balance traditional values with the swift pace of the modern world. Although knowledge and technology are advancing quickly, the fundamental needs for empathy, discipline, respect and integrity remain unchanged. Educators should not only impart information but also share wisdom that helps students become improved individuals.
One cannot deny the harsh reality that many of society’s issues today—such as crime and disillusionment—originate from a lack of proper moral grounding in early childhood. Often, a criminal is merely a misguided, emotionally wounded individual who was never guided or corrected when they first began to struggle. This highlights the vital role of a teacher. The timely intervention of a caring, attentive teacher can alter the course and change the trajectory of a life.
Teachers are master artisans of human potential. They shape young minds with patience, passion and purpose. They are not merely instructors—they are inspirers. They ignite curiosity, boost confidence, and awaken dreams. They believe in the power of hope, and through their efforts, they ignite the flame of possibility in every child.
To all teachers among us and those who continue contributing to education and mentorship, I encourage you—keep up the excellent work. Share your valuable experience with younger generations. The world needs your voice, guidance and values. You remain the torchbearers of learning.
Let us continue to honour the true spirit of Teachers’ Day — not only with words, but through our ongoing dedication to educating, uplifting and inspiring those around us.
Happy Teachers’ Day!
Yours as Ever,
Brig JS Jagdev
